Awards of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon
The Institute of Chemistry Ceylon (IChemC) was established in the year 1971 for the general advancement of the science and practice of chemistry. It caters to the Chemical Sciences as well as a professional, qualifying and examination body looking after and responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of the profession of Chemistry in Sri Lanka. In line with its mandate, IChemC identifies suitable candidates for various types of awards, preferably in the area of chemical sciences, to be presented at its Annual Sessions, the principal annual activity of the IChemC which enables members to disseminate their research findings.
Awards presented by IChemC are listed below:
Institute of Chemistry Gold Medal – for outstanding contribution to the welfare of the Institute provided in an honorary capacity.
Dr. C L de Silva Gold Medal Award – for outstanding research contribution in any branch of Chemical Sciences and/or the use of such research for national development during the last five years in Sri Lanka.
Devanathan Memorial Award – for exceptional research contribution of original nature in the field of Physical Chemistry and or related areas, such as Physical-Analytical, Physical-Inorganic, Physical-Organic and Biophysical Chemistry.
Chandrasena Memorial Award – for exceptional research contribution of original nature in the field of Organic Chemistry and/or related areas, such as Biochemistry, Pharmacognosy, Molecular Biology and Bioactivity studies.
Ramakrishna Memorial Award – for exceptional research contribution of original nature in the field of Inorganic and/or Analytical Chemistry and/or related areas, such as Bio-inorganic Chemistry or Bio-analytical Chemistry.
Kandiah Memorial Awards – for the best research contribution in Chemistry carried out by a student registered for a postgraduate degree by either course work and/or research at a Higher Educational Institute in Sri Lanka. There are three such awards: Basic Chemistry Award, Applied Chemistry Award and Graduateship Award.
Professor M U S Sultanbawa Award for Research in Chemistry – for the unique, distinguished and significant contribution made to the cause of Science, Chemistry, Education and Research in Sri Lanka.
