Honouring a Pioneer in Chemistry
Introduced in 2016, the Ramakrishna Memorial Award commemorates the contribution of Professor R. S. Ramakrishna to chemistry education, research and the professional development of chemists in Sri Lanka.
Professor R. S. Ramakrishna
Professor R. S. Ramakrishna was a former Professor of Chemistry at the University of Ceylon in Colombo and a pioneering leader in the development of research in Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry.
A Legacy of Research & Education
He developed the first M.Sc. Programme in Analytical Chemistry in Sri Lanka and served as President of the Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon in 1978/79, during which the Graduateship Programme in Chemistry was inaugurated.

The award reflects Professor Ramakrishna's contribution to research, postgraduate education and the professional chemistry community.

Contributions made during the last ten years are considered when evaluating applications.
Research Publications
Publications in SCI/SCIE journals receive up to 3 points per publication and 2 points for indexing, with no maximum limit.
Publications in other peer-reviewed journals receive up to 2 marks, with no maximum limit.
Patents
International patents receive up to 10 points per patent, with a maximum of 30 points.
Local patents receive up to 5 points per patent, with a maximum of 20 points.
H-Index
The H-index is awarded at a rate of 0.5 × H-index points.
Impact Factor Scale
Minimum Eligibility Requirement
A minimum of 50 marks is required for eligibility for the Ramakrishna Memorial Award.
Important Notes
- For publications and patents involving multiple authors, marks will be allocated based on the applicant's contribution stated in the application.
- Only publications, patents and research contributions in Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Bio-inorganic Chemistry and Bio-analytical Chemistry shall be considered for the award.
- Research publications in SCI/SCIE and other peer-reviewed journals should be categorised accordingly.
