A dedicated analytical and laboratory facility established in recognition of the distinguished service of Professor H. D. Gunawardhana to the Institute and to chemical education in Sri Lanka.

The Centre carries the name of one of the Institute's longstanding and dedicated members.
H D Gunawardhana Instrument Centre
The H D Gunawardhana Instrument Centre was ceremonially declared open at Level 3 of the Adamantane House on Friday, 10th November 2006, in the presence of a large number of chemists, scientists, professionals, colleagues, friends, relatives, and students.
Professor Gunawardhana is a very loyal member of the Institute, having served as its President from 1997–1998 and again from 2013–2015.
Throughout his distinguished tenure, he also served as the Chairman of the Education Committee, Academic Board, and the Admission & Ethical Practices Committee.
His contribution to chemical education extended over many decades. He dedicatedly lectured to Graduateship students for 38 years since the commencement of the programme.
