Professor J. P. C. Chandrasena
The award is made annually to commemorate Professor J. P. C. Chandrasena, who was the first Sri Lankan to hold the Chair of Chemistry at the University of Ceylon.
A Pioneer in Chemistry & Pharmacology
Professor Chandrasena excelled in the fields of Organic Chemistry and Pharmacology. His legacy is continued through recognition of exceptional research in Organic Chemistry and closely related disciplines.

Contributions made during the last ten years are considered in evaluating applications for the award.
Research Publications
Publications in SCI/SCIE journals receive up to 3 points per publication, with an additional 2 points for indexing. There is no maximum limit.
Other peer-reviewed journals receive up to 2 marks per publication, with no maximum limit.
Patents
International patents receive up to 10 points per patent, with a maximum of 30 points.
Local patents receive up to 5 points per patent, with a maximum of 20 points.
H-Index
The H-index is considered at a rate of 0.5 × H-index points.
Impact Factor
Journal impact factors are assessed according to the scale below.

Minimum Eligibility Requirement
A minimum of 50 marks is required for eligibility for the Chandrasena Memorial Award.
Important Notes
- For publications and patents involving multiple authors, marks will be allocated based on the applicant's contribution stated in the application.
- Only publications, patents and research contributions in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacognosy, Molecular Biology and Bioactivity Studies shall be considered for the award.
- Research publications in SCI/SCIE and other peer-reviewed journals should be categorised accordingly.
