This award, introduced in 2016, is made annually to commemorate Prof. R S Ramakrishna, former Professor of Chemistry at the University of Ceylon in Colombo, who was a pioneering leader in the development of research in Inorganic & Analytical Chemistry. He developed the first M.Sc. Programme (Analytical Chemistry) in Sri Lanka. He served as the President of the Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon in 1978/79 during which period the very successful and popular Graduateship Programme in Chemistry was inaugurated.
The award is made for exceptional research contribution of original nature in the field of Inorganic and/or Analytical Chemistry and/or related areas, such as Bio-inorganic Chemistry or Bio-analytical Chemistry.
The award comprises a Silver Medal and a sum of Rs.25,000/-. The recipient of the award shall be invited to deliver the “Ramakrishna Memorial Award Lecture” at the Institute’s Annual Sessions

Marking scheme: (Contribution for the last 10 years will be considered.)

  1. Research publications in SCI/SCIE journals
    (up to 3 points/publication and 2 points for indexing in the above indices.) (no maximum limit)
    Research publications in other peer-reviewed journals
    up to 2 marks (no maximum limit)
  2. Patents
    International up to 10 points/patent (maximum 30 points)
    Local up to 5 points/patent (maximum 20 points)
  3. H index (0.5 x h index) points

Note:

  1. For publications and patents which include multiple authors, marks will be allocated based on the applicant’s contribution stated in the application.
  2. Only publications/patents/research contribution in the field of Inorganic Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry/Bio-inorganic Chemistry/Bio-analytical Chemistry shall be considered for the award.
  3. Research publications in SCI/SCIE and other peer-reviewed journals should be categorized accordingly.
    Impact factor: 0-0.99 (no marks); 1-2 (1 mark), above 2-5 (1.5 points), above 5 (2 points)

    Important: The minimum requirement for eligibility for the award shall be 50 marks.
