XXth Convocation of College of Chemical Sciences, Institute of Chemistry Ceylon- 2024

The XXth Convocation of the College of Chemical Sciences (CCS), Institute of Chemistry Ceylon (IChemC) was held at the BMICH on the 4th of November, 2024. Prof. Jayantha Lal Ratnasekara, the Governor of the Eastern Province, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

This event marked the graduation of 120 graduates, 9 diplomates and 5 licentiate chemists of the Graduateship in Chemistry (GIC) program, 36 graduates of BSc Hons. in Chemical Science and, 42 diplomates of the Diploma in Laboratory Technology (DLT). Overall and subject prizes were also awarded to graduates who excelled in different theory and practical aspects of chemistry during their academic years in the institute.

The President of IChemC, Prof. Janitha Liyanage, Council members of the IChemC, emeritus and senior professors, senior lecturers, administrative staff, teaching assistants, Parents and Well-wishers were among the attendees. The event concluded with the valedictory speeches delivered by Ms. G S P de Silva, Ms. T D Fernando, and Ms. K Midusha who won the overall best performance prizes for GIC, BSc Hons in Chemical Science and DLT programs, respectively.

The XIXth Convocation of the College of Chemical Sciences, Institute of Chemistry Ceylon

 
The XIXth Convocation of the College of Chemical Sciences was held on the 22nd of November 2023 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall felicitating the 40th Batch of Graduate Chemists, the 02nd Batch of BSc Graduates, and the 48th Batch of DLT Diplomates.
 
Following the declaration by Prof. Namal Priyantha, President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, indicating the commencement of the ceremony, designations, and certificates were conferred to 114 Graduate Chemists, 59 BSc Graduates, 2 Licentiate Chemists, 14 Diplomates in Chemistry, and 50 Diplomates in Laboratory Technology. GIC, BSc, and DLT students who showcased outstanding performances throughout the course of their study, were felicitated. The Shireen Jayasuriya Memorial Gold Medal for the Best performance in all parts of the Graduateship Examination was awarded to Mr. W G K Kumara, whereas the Vidya Nidhi Dr. N R De Silva Memorial Gold Medal 2023, for the Best performance in all parts of the BSc Examination, was awarded to Mr. M A N U Malaweera Arachchi and the Dr. R. O. B. Wijesekara Felicitation Fund award for the Best All Rounder of the GIC & BSc programs were awarded to Ms. Y K Ranasinghe, and Mr. M A N U Malaweera Arachchi respectively, while Ms. K S T C Rangadari secured the Dr. G. C. N Jayasuriya Award for the First in batch of the DLT program.
 
The Chief Guest for the ceremony, Senior Prof. Gamini Rajapakse, Department of Chemistry, University of Peradeniya delivered the Convocation Address followed by the valedictory speeches by the best performers of the Graduateship in Chemistry (GIC), BSc Hons in Chemical Sciences, and Diploma in Laboratory Technology (DLT) programs respectively. The ceremony was graced by Prof. Srianthie Deraniyagala (Dean, College of Chemical Sciences), Mr. E G Somapala (Director, DLT Programme), Mr. W M G Karunaratne (Registrar), Mr. N I N S Nadarasa (Senior Administrative Executive), and other eminent academics.
